Overview

Search Cells on Google is a Chrome extension for running Google searches from selected Google Sheets cells. Use sequential search to review a list in one browser tab or batch search to open only a few tabs at a time.

Release status: v2.5.9 is awaiting final real-browser verification. Before the Chrome Web Store listing is live, the development build can be loaded manually for testing.

1. Install the extension

After the store listing is published, select “Add to Chrome” from the product page.

For the development build:

  1. Unzip the v2.5.9 extension package.
  2. Open chrome://extensions in Chrome.
  3. Enable Developer mode.
  4. Select “Load unpacked” and choose the folder containing manifest.json.
  5. Reload any open Google Sheets tabs.

Requires Google Chrome 116 or later.

2. Search a single cell

  1. Select a cell containing the text you want to search for.
  2. Press Alt + Shift + G.
  3. The selected text is searched on Google.

For example, selecting “ABC Corporation” searches Google for that phrase.

3. Review multiple cells in one tab

  1. Select a range such as A2:A10.
  2. Press Alt + Shift + G.
  3. In the results tab, press → for the next result or ← for the previous one.

You can switch to Alt + → / Alt + ← in settings. Arrow navigation does not override typing in Google’s search field. Sequential progress is saved.

4. Open results in small batches

  1. Select a range in Google Sheets.
  2. Press Alt + Shift + B.
  3. By default, three tabs open.
  4. Open the remaining results later from the unified panel.

Free supports one or three tabs per batch. Pro is designed to allow up to five when subscriptions become available.

5. Keyboard shortcuts

Action Default
One cell / sequential search Alt + Shift + G
Batch search Alt + Shift + B
Open templates Alt + Shift + T
Next / previous result → / ←

On Mac, Alt corresponds to Option (⌥). Change shortcuts at chrome://extensions/shortcuts if they conflict with your system.

6. Search templates

Append terms or combine multiple columns into one query.

Template Query pattern
Basic {cell}
Reviews {cell} 評判
Official website {cell} 公式サイト
Company and location {1} {2} 公式サイト

{1} represents the first column and {2} the second. With A2:B10 selected, {1} {2} 公式サイト generates one query per row. You can create and edit custom templates in the panel. The old {A} / {B} syntax is not supported.

7. If automatic range reading fails

Some Sheets or access settings prevent automatic range reading. The panel then offers manual input.

  1. Copy the selected range in Google Sheets.
  2. Paste it into the panel’s input box.
  3. Check the preview and click Sequential or Batch search.

Pasting alone does not start a search. You must click a search button.

8. Settings and language

In the panel’s Settings tab, change search tab behavior, panel position, navigation shortcuts, or interface language. Japanese and English are supported. Changing the interface language does not translate your spreadsheet values or saved query templates.

9. Troubleshooting

Shortcuts do not work

Check that the extension is enabled and inspect chrome://extensions/shortcuts. Reload Google Sheets after updating the extension.

A selected range cannot be read

Try the manual copy-and-paste fallback. Check that the resulting query preserves any important leading zeros, dates, or formula display values.

Google displays a robot check

The extension does not bypass Google’s search limits. Reduce the number of tabs opened or use sequential search.

Arrow keys do not switch results

Move focus away from Google’s search box or enable the Alt-key navigation mode in settings.

I cannot purchase Pro

Pro checkout is not available yet. Purchases and license issuance remain disabled until the payment service launches.
